Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera
The Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera was first introduced in 1982, and was initially
available as 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, and 4-door wagon body styles. In 1990,
the Ciera brought out two trim levels for the 2-door the S and sporty International
Series; four trim levels for the 4-door thebase, S, SL, and International Series;
plus two versions of the Cruiser wagon the S and SL. The base engine was a 2.5-liter
4-cylinder. A 3.3-liter V6 delivering a 160 horsepower came as a standard on SL
and I-series models. A three-speed automatic transmission was standard on all
trims, while a 4-speed OD automatic transmission is an option.
The Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera underwent several innovations as the years went
by in order to cope up with the demands of the market and also to fine tune the
technology of its cars. In 1991 it made do without the International series leaving
only three trim levels, the base, the S and the SL. A big innovation came in 1993
when Oldsmobile made the driver's airbag an available feature though it was only
standard to the SL it was an optional feature to the S level. But 1994 brought
an even heftier series of changes. The driver-side airbag and antilock brakes
are new standard features on all Cutlass Ciera sedans and station wagons.
Two new engines and a new automatic transmission were also brought into the fold.
The new base engine is a 120-horsepower, 2.2-liter 4-cylinder, coupled with a
3-speed automatic. The new 160-horsepower 3.1-liter V6 is standard on the wagon
and optional on the sedan and the four-speed automatic is the only transmission
available for the V6. The changes went on for two more years but unfortunately
the Cutlass Ciera was set to be replaced by a newer and better model.
