Oldsmobile Ciera Problems
The Oldsmobile Ciera has had several noted problems. Car problems are as common
as cold. The perfect automobile has yet to be invented. Because of this well-known
fact, it is a great help for Ciera owners to be aware of the most common 'sickness'
that their car experiences. One of the foremost problems the Ciera has experienced
is regarding its transmission. It has been recorded that there were instances
where 4T60E transmissions may drop out of drive while speeding, shift irregularly,
and drivers may have no feel of the third or fourth gear, or no second and third
gear because of a faulty ground connection for the shift solenoids. Aside from
that, Model TH-125 or 440-T4 automatic transmissions has been noted for giving
delayed shifting action or not shift at all. The difficulty is in the jammed throttle
valve within the transmission.
Another known dilemma is regarding the loud engine noise which is familiar on
many V6 engines and is caused by the wide clearance on the number-one main bearing.
Another probable cause of the problem could be the automatic transmission-pump
starvation or a sticking pressure-regulator valve. It is not only the engine which
has been reported to make unnecessary noise, a weird steering noise is another
complaint. This particular noise is due to the loosening of the upper bearing
mount in the steering column and eventually causing the clacking noise. Lastly,
it seems like leaks are common to the Ciera as trans-axle leaks and valve cover
leaks have been reported to happen. The company has admitted to a manufacturing
defect and has agreed to replace these faulty parts.
